Southwestern Turkey Burgers

Serves 5


  • 1.3 lb package of ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely chopped (or ½ of a large jalapeño)
  • 1 tbsp. chopped cilantro
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • (Optional: salt & pepper to taste)
  • Whole wheat buns
  • Fresh simple guacamole (mash 1 avocado + juice of 1 lime)
  • Optional toppings: pepper jack cheese, lettuce, red onions


  1. Prepare grill for cooking.
  2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Form into 5 burger patties.
  3. Grill patties approximately 4-5 minutes per side, or until a meat thermometer reads 165F. {If desired, add a slice of cheese to the patties and cook for another minute or so.} Alternatively, you can cook these in a skillet coated with a little cooking spray.
  4. Place patties on a whole wheat bun and top with guacamole.
