Millions of Americans live with heart disease, stroke or a cardiovascular condition. Luckily, the American Heart Association works to help kids, families and communities live heart-healthy lives. One of their missions is to get people active and to stay active for life.
Locally, our American Heart Association puts this mission into action every April by encouraging thousands of Rochesterians to take part in their annual Heart Walk. Not only are they raising much needed awareness for heart disease, but they are literally taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
This past fall, organizers from the American Heart Association approached us about partnering with them to add a timed run as part of the event. Their reasoning was two-fold. They wanted to include something for those that are more competitive; as well as provide incentive for others to make physical activity a bigger part of their daily routine by training to run a 5K.
Naturally, we're excited to partner with such a like-minded organization. We have always been committed to helping individuals reach their own personal fitness goals - while making Rochester a healthier place to live.
With that being said, we are pleased to announce that Fleet Feet Sports and YellowJacket Racing will be partnering with the American Heart Association on their upcoming Heart Walk & Run on Sat, April 16th at Frontier Field.
YellowJacket Racing will be producing a brand new 5K course through downtown Rochester that incorporates portions of the Inner Loop.
Fleet Feet Sports is committed to offering our experience and expertise to all of the participants - whether they're in need of proper fitting footwear and sports bras or are in need of training to reach the finish line.
Training officially begins this Saturday, Feb. 6th. We have a program for everyone, no matter their starting point. Our WalkFIT training program offers both beginner and intermediate training plans to help participants conquer the 3.1 mile walk. While our No Boundaries Learn To Run program will gradually - and safely - prepare non-runners to run 3.1 miles over the next 11 weeks. If you're already able to complete a 5K, our No Boundaries 2pt0 training program will help you run stronger.
In honor of Heart Month, you can register for the inaugural Heart Run at a discounted rate for the month of February. The lowest possible registration rates will be available on National Wear Red Day this Friday, Feb. 5th. Click here for details.
